Take me to Church Barcelona.
As Yago (an old friend from high school that I visited this past weekend in Barcelona) and I discovered this past weekend, once you get that song stuck in your head, it never leaves. NEVER.
But despite Hozier's constant nagging refrain in my head, nothing could perturb me in Barcelona! It was my first time there, and I was impossibly excited about it. In the time it took me to walk from the big train station to Yago's airy apartment in the Old City, I fell in love. Barcelona is unbelievably beautiful; just walking around the city streets makes you feel like you're in a movie (um...I don't know that I should admit this, but ever since I saw the Cheetah Girls Disney movie set in Barcelona, I have been dying to go there myself).
Yago took me on a great walking tour in his neighborhood on my first day, and to a cozy tapas place later (way later, as is the practice in Spain) for dinner. But he had to study for exams, so I actually had a fair bit of time to explore by myself, which didn't bother me at all. It was so fun! And easy, once I had a map--my rapidly-disappearing Spanish certainly didn't do me much good, I am ashamed to report.
So, this weekend I am recovering from Spain-withdrawal with a few days chilling in Aix with my buddies. It still feels like a vacation though, with long days stretching ahead of me with nothing planned for once, which is great. Looking forward to the next adventure--just booked Italy!
